Taipei, Dec. 15 (CNA) Taiwan voiced its support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and e-commerce at the recently concluded World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference, according to a statement from the Office of Trade Negotiations under the Executive Yuan on Friday.

The WTO's 2017 Ministerial Conference, which concluded on Wednesday in Buenos Aires, Argentina, put a spotlight on important economic issues, such as the promotion of e-commerce and SMEs as well as the fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

According to a statement from the Office of Trade Negotiations, Taiwan's delegation to the conference voiced its support for measures to promote both business types as well as to stop subsidizing IUU fishing.

While the conference ended without any agreements being signed, WTO members, including Taiwan, pledged to continue conversations that would address these topics.

The Taiwanese delegation also participated in many discussions regarding human rights, environmental protection and economic development, and looks forward to continuing to participate in WTO events, the statement read.
