Taipei, Aug. 15 (CNA) Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC Corp. has gained more popularity among consumers with its flagship models but still trails far behind South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co., according to a recent survey by Krusell International AB.

The Swedish manufacturer of carrying cases for portable electronics has released its top 10-selling phones for July, in which the HTC One X was up three spots from its ninth place in the previous study conducted in May.

Another of HTC's flagship models, the One S, ranked seventh on the list, down from sixth place in the May survey.

The Samsung Galaxy SIII kept first place for the second consecutive month, followed by Apple's iPhone 4/4S, the Sony Xperia S, the Sony Xperia U and the Samsung Galaxy SII, the survey results show.

Eighth to 10th places were occupied by the Sony Xperia Go, Samsung's GT-B2710/Xcover 271 and Sony's Xperia Arc/Arc S.

“The mix of brands that we have on the list this month is a bit surprising,” said Ulf Sandberg, managing director at Krusell.

“My forecast for August is that we will still have Samsung in the lead, even if we already have started to receive pre-orders on the new iPhone model,” he said.

The list is based not on the number of phone sales but rather on orders for custom-made mobile and smartphone cases ordered from Krusell during July 2012.

Krusell claims that its figures reflect sales of phones on six continents and in more than 70 countries around the globe.
