Taipei, Jan. 10 (CNA) Taiwanese sisters Latisha Chan (詹詠然) and Chan Hao-ching (詹皓晴) progressed to the women's doubles semi-finals at the Hobart International after their opponents withdrew Thursday.

Following the withdrawal of their quarter-final opponents, Dalila Jakupovic of Slovenia and Sabrina Santamaria of the U.S., the Taiwanese pair move automatically into the semi-finals where they face Romania's Monica Niculescu and China's Yang Zhaoxuan (楊釗煊).

The Taiwanese pair lost in the final of the women's doubles at the Brisbane International last week.

The Hobart International, a women's professional tennis tournament that started in 1994, is being held Jan. 5-12 at the Hobart International Tennis Centre in Hobart, Australia, with total purse of US$250,000.

Meanwhile, the 2019 Australian Open kicks off on Jan. 14, marking the start of a brand new tennis season.

In the second qualifying round for the men's singles on Thursday, Taiwan's Jason Jung (莊吉生), ranked 120th in the world, lost 2-6, 3-6 to 185th-ranked Hiroki Moriya.

Moriya broke Jung three times at the start of the match and ran away with the first set 6-2. In the second set, Jung managed to draw level at 3-3 in a seesaw battle, but eventually lost the set 3-6, ending his chance to advance in the tournament.
