Taipei, Aug. 12 (CNA) Parts of southern Taiwan could see heavy or torrential rains on Sunday as a southwestern wind continues to blow across the island, the Central Weather Bureau said.
Central and southern Taiwan could expect rain throughout the day, while northern and eastern Taiwan could see thunder showers in the afternoon, said the bureau, adding that the rain could last throughout the week.
It cautioned people in these areas to be aware of sudden downpours, lightning, strong winds, rising river waters and flooding in low-lying areas.
Meanwhile, the bureau said a developing depression system near the Philippines could bring rain to Taiwan from Aug. 15-18, but it remains to be seen if the system would develop into a tropical storm.
Daily temperatures are expected to remain high throughout Taiwan on Sunday, reaching around 34 degrees Celsius in northern Taiwan.
