Aging Yilan bridge demolished in Army exercise

Taiwan's Army used controlled explosives Tuesday to demolish an aging bridge in eastern Taiwan's Yilan County, clearing the way for new infrastructure. The Army's 53rd Engineering Group placed explosives on Xizou Bridge No. 3 in Yuanshan Township before detonating them to bring down the structure. The group said the demolition gave military engineers an opportunity to practice destroying bridges during combat to prevent advancing enemy forces from using them, while also helping local governments carry out infrastructure projects.
