
Taipei, Aug. 12 (CNA) Taiwan won bronze medals in both the men's wushu sanda and korfball competitions at the 2025 World Games in Chengdu, China on Tuesday.
Zhang Huan-yi (張煥宜), the only sanda athlete on Taiwan's wushu team, came away with a bronze after he defeated Ruslan Piraliyev of Azerbaijan 2-0 in the men's 70-kilogram third-place match, in a field of eight competitors.
It was Zhang's third medal in recent years, following his bronze at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China and a silver medal at the world championships that same year.
At the World Games on Tuesday, the Taiwan team, competing under the name Chinese Taipei, took another bronze medal, after beating the Czech Republic in the korfball competition.
In the first quarter of the game, Taiwan was tied 6-6, and by halftime the team was trailing 8-9.
Going into the third quarter, however, Taiwan's Lin Ya-wen (林雅雯), Cho Ya-hui (卓雅慧) and Wu Pei-yun (吳沛芸) upped their offense and scored 9 points in 10 minutes, while the Czech Republic was limited to 5 points.
In the final quarter, Team Taiwan's strong defense held the Czech team to just one late point, while Chang Shu-chi (張書綺) and Lin scored in succession to secure a 19-15 victory in the game.
