Taipei, June 6 (CNA) A storefront sign detached from a building facade in a Taipei shopping district on Saturday and fell onto the sidewalk, injuring two pedestrians, according to local officials.
After responding to a call at 3:33 p.m., Taipei firefighters reported that the fallen sign left two people injured, including a woman in her 90s with a minor arm abrasion and a woman in her 60s with a fractured right wrist.
They said the incident also slightly damaged three nearby scooters.
The cause of the incident at a Taiwan Mobile outlet on Section 4 of Zhongxiao East Road is still under investigation, police said.
Later on Saturday, Taipei City's Construction Management Office said in a text message to the media that the store operator will be fined NT$240,000 (US$7,600).
