Taipei, July 1 (CNA) A road collapse occurred at the intersection of Changchun Road and Lane 46 of Qingcheng Street in Taipei on Tuesday, with city authorities finding that it was caused by a dislodged water pipe.
Taipei Public Works Department officials said that after an inspection, personnel from the New Construction Office under the department concluded that the cause was a dislodged water pipe, which allowed water to wash away the soil beneath the road's surface.
The incident is unrelated to any nearby construction projects, the officials said, adding that the issue with the dislodged water pipe was being addressed.
According to the department, an initial inspection found that the sinkhole measured about 2 meters in length, 1 meter in width, and 1 meter in depth.
There were no signs of further expansion, but as a safety precaution, the area was immediately cordoned off, and relevant city government departments were notified to investigate the situation, the department said.
