Taipei, May 28 (CNA) Taipei's department of education said Saturday that the city government's first digital experimental high school will begin accepting applications soon for the 2022-2023 academic year, which will start with 48 admissions.
In a press release, the department said an online session will be held May 31 to explain to parents and prospective students the concept behind the Taipei Digital Experimental High School (T-school) and to provide other relevant information.
The school will announce the admission requirements in the first half of June, ahead of the new academic year that starts in August, and will admit only 48 students, according to the department.
Applications will be open to individual students at the junior high-school level, and the 48 who are accepted for the 2022-2023 school year have the opportunity to learn anytime and anywhere, the department said.
The academic programs are designed to incorporate the potential of technology to create a new learning experience, the department said, adding that the "T-school" acronym means Taipei, technology, talent, and the recruitment and cultivation of T-shaped people.
The establishment of the T-school, the first of its kind to be run by the Taipei City government, was approved last year by the Ministry of Education (MOE), allowing the use of both physical and digital resources for teaching.
In approving the establishment of the school, the MOE was acknowledging Taipei's achievements in recent years to create smart-tech campuses that incorporate digital education, the city's education department said.
Tseng Tsan-chin (曾燦金), head of the department, said Taipei has obtained impressive results in its efforts to incorporate hybrid learning, using virtual resources and smart technology, in its experimental schools.
According to Tseng, Taipei has as many as 10 such experimental schools at different levels, with well-rounded online-learning platforms, resources and faculties.
The information session for the new Taipei Digital Experimental High School session will begin at 6:30 p.m. on May 31 on the school's YouTube channel.
