Warm, sunny weather forecast for Sunday

Taipei, Feb. 18 (CNA) Most of Taiwan is expected to enjoy sunny skies Sunday as the effect of the northeast monsoon faded, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

The CWB said that daytime highs Sunday are expected to range between 27 and 28 degrees Celsius in northern Taiwan, 28-30 degrees in central parts of the county, and 29-30 degrees in the south.

In the early hours of Sunday, the lowest temperatures in low-lying areas of Taiwan were recorded at 14.9 degrees in the Xinwu District of Taoyuan, with 15-18 degrees registered in other parts of the country, the CWB said.

Stable weather is forecast for almost all of Taiwan for Sunday, but sporadic showers could be experienced in mountainous areas of northern and eastern parts of the country, the CWB said.

After warm daytime temperatures, the mercury is expected to fall at night to 16 degrees in northern and central Taiwan, and 18 degrees in southern Taiwan, the CWB added.

The CWB said the weather pattern for Monday could be similar.

The bureau, meanwhile, warned of fog in western Taiwan and around the outlying Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu islands.

According to the Environmental Protection Administration's (EPA's), Air Quality Index in central Taiwan, as well as in Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung and Pingtung, flashed orange, which indicates that air quality is unhealthy for sensitive groups.

Air quality in northern Taiwan, including Hsinchu and Miaoli, as well as outlaying Matsu and Kinmen, was rated fair, while air quality in Yilan, Hualien and Taitung was rated good, the EPA said.
