Sydney, Sept.19 (CNA) Taiwan is working to attract more Australian visitors by promoting its newest tourist spots and latest fun activities, according to a tourism official.
To this end, a dinner party was held Tuesday in Sydney for representatives of the Taiwan Visitors Association, Taiwan's flagship China Airlines, five Taiwanese travel agencies, Australian travel agencies and the media.
One of the goals of the promotional effort is to interest Australian travel agencies in working with Taiwan's Tourism Bureau, which has been trying to tap into the Australian market, said the director of the bureau's Singapore office Arthur Hsieh.
At the dinner, a Taiwanese guest who works in tourism said the industry could profit more from visits by Australians than by Chinese tourists.
Therefore, Taiwan's tourism industry stakeholders would like to see more tourists from Australia, the guest said.
According to Taiwan government statistics, visitor arrivals from Australia last year were 60,067.
