Taipei, June 20 (CNA) Tropical Storm Talim could affect Taiwan heavily overnight, bringing extreme rainfall across the country, the Central Weather Bureau warned Wednesday.
Accumulated precipitation between 8 p.m. Wednesday and 8 p.m. Thursday could reach up to 700 mm in mountainous areas of southern Taiwan, the bureau said.
Elsewhere, the amount of rain was expected to range between 100-400 mm and 250-500 mm in northern and southern Taiwan, respectively, according to bureau forecasts.
The bureau said western Taiwan could experience winds of 60-100 kph and that heavy seas could be expected in coastal areas.
As of Wednesday evening, Talim was centered 100 km north of the outlying county of Penghu, moving at a speed of 41 kph in a northeasterly direction.
The storm was packing maximum sustained winds of 83 kph, with gusts reaching 108 kph.
The bureau said that if the storm maintains its current speed and path, it could leave Taiwan by Thursday.
