Taipei, Oct. 18 (CNA) Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu (陳菊) met a group of 30 overseas Taiwanese businessmen from Thailand Wednesday to seek business opportunities between Thailand and Kaohsiung under Taiwan's New Southbound Policy.

The business group, led by Taiwan's Representative in Thailand Tung Chen-yuan (童振源), is visiting Taiwan Oct. 15-20.

During the meeting, Chen introduced her goals of advancing Kaohsiung's agricultural development and positioning the city as "Asia's Bay Area" to attract more foreign investment.

Chen also pointed out the city's need to seek assistance from the central government in the areas of public transportation and industrial transformation to deal with the shortages of Taiwan's economy -- lack of land, power, water, labor and talent.

She also said Kaohsiung is willing to share its medical experience and containment guidelines with regard to dengue fever with Thailand.
