Taipei, May 9 (CNA) The Taipei Film Commission has now helped 1,000 local and foreign television and film productions to shoot at locations in the city, with Mass Rapid Transit stations the favorite locations, the Department of Cultural Affairs under the Taipei city government said Wednesday.
The department said that the film commission, established in late 2008, achieved the milestone of providing assistance to 1,000 TV and film productions on April 18.
"The growth has been rapid, from just 54 productions in the first year to 410 in 2011," a department official said.
The official said that the "passing of the 1,000 mark shows that Taipei has the potential to become a TV and film city and that substantial results have been achieved in promoting the city."
The commission also listed the 10 most-favored shoot locations, with the city's MRT stations taking the lead in terms of popularity.
Inside-carriage shoots on the MRT's Wenhu Line were the most sought-after by producers, while the favorite locations outside MRT stations were Taipei Main Station and the Zhongxiao-Dunhua Station. Beitou Station took the position as the most-favored MRT platform location.
After the MRT stations, shooting locations on the Bopiliao historic block in the Wanhua District and Taipei City Hospital's Linsen Chinese Medicine branch ranked as the second- and third-favorite spots for film and TV people looking to use Taiwan's capital as a backdrop for their productions.
Other favored locations included the Nangang Bottle Cap Factory, Zhongshan Hall, the Taipei Expo Park and the various Japanese-style dormitories that can still be found in various parts of the city.
Also on the top ten list are Zhouzai Parking Lot, Nangang PoliceStation, and Yangmingshan National Park.
