Taipei, Jan. 3 (CNA) Fubon Group Chairman Daniel Tsai (蔡明忠) said Wednesday that the financial services conglomerate will increase salaries for entry-level employees with a college degree to at least NT$30,000 (US$1,000) a month, in keeping with the government's efforts to raise pay in Taiwan.

Tsai, one of Taiwan's leading figures in the finance sector, said at a charity golf tournament that some of Fubon's employees in central and southern Taiwan are currently making less than NT$30,000 a month.

Fubon will change that to give entry level workers who are college graduates a monthly salary of least NT$30,000, he said, but did not specify when the increase will be implemented.

Tsai said Fubon usually gives lucrative yearend bonuses and an annual pay raise of at least 3 percent and is supportive of the government's efforts to increase wages in Taiwan.

Expressing optimism about Taiwan's economic outlook in 2018, he said that if the economic climate continues to improve, so will wage conditions in the country.
