Taipei, June 12 (CNA) Agricultural losses tallied as of Tuesday had topped NT$140 million (US$4.67 million), the result of torrential rain that pummeled central and southern Taiwan over the weekend, according to government statistics.
Losses suffered in the agriculture sector had amounted to NT$144.7 million as of 2 p.m. that day, the Council of Agriculture said, after a frontal system and the southwest monsoon brought torrential rain to central and southern Taiwan.
Damages to produce topped the list of losses, totaling NT$131.8 million, with rice, cabbages and seasonal fruit the worst-hit.
Among the most affected areas were northern Taoyuan County, which suffered NT$66 million in losses, Nantou County in central Taiwan, and Pingtung County, Kaohsiung and Chiayi County in the south.
