Seven people cited with prestigious sports awards

Taipei, Dec. 23 (CNA) Seven people were presented with TaiwanSports Elite Awards by the Cabinet-level Sports Affairs Council (SAC)Thursday for their outstanding contributions to Taiwan's athleticdevelopment.

Cyclist Hsiao Mei-yu, who won a gold medal and a bronze medal atthe cycling events of 2010 Asian Games in China's Guangzhou inNovember, was awarded the Best Female Athlete Award.

Tennis player Yang Tsung-hua, who won two gold medals in themen's team and the mixed doubles events in the 2010 Asiad, receivedthe Best Male Athlete Award.

Hsiao's coach, Hsu Jui-teh, was given the Best Coach Award.

The Chinese Taipei men's 400-meter relay team, which won a silvermedal at the Asiad, received the Best Sports Team Award.

Taekwondo athlete Huang Hsien-yung, who won a gold medal in thewomen's under 46-kg division, won the Best Rising Sports Star Award,while Chen Li-hsin, who won a silver medal in pairs figure skating atthe games, was given the Best Sportsmanship Award.

Sports professor Chiu Chin-sung, formerly president of NationalTaiwan Sport University, was awarded a Lifetime Contribution Award,according to the SAC.
