On April 7, 1989, Nylon Cheng self-immolated for freedom in Taiwan, a country that was then ruled with an iron fist and severely restricted individual freedom. Three and a half decades later, as people mark what is now known as 'Freedom of Speech Day,' CNA hears from the members of his family who detail the life trajectory of this freedom advocate, and the love he had for his country and its people.
