Charity allows pregnant migrants to keep their baby

Taiwan has one of the largest populations of migrant workers in the world, with more than 500,000 migrants from Southeast Asia working in factories, restaurants and homes, and it’s inevitable that some of them become pregnant while working on the island. In recent years, the government has amended laws to allow migrant women who become pregnant while working here, the right to give birth in Taiwan and keep their job. Despite this, many brokers and employers often terminate pregnant migrants’ contract, causing them to make the difficult choice of whether to keep their baby or their job. Charity group Harmony Home Taiwan is helping women who want to have their baby.
