Giant mechanical elephants parade through Taipei streets

Three giant mechanical elephants paraded through Taipei’s Shilin District on Saturday evening. The spectacle drew more than 100,000 people to the opening performance of the 2026 Taipei Arts Festival, according to the Taipei Performing Arts Center. The 4.5-meter-tall, 8-meter-long elephants are the centerpiece of French troupe Compagnie Oposito’s production “Trois éléphants passent…”, a street performance that also featured musicians and performers. The troupe is scheduled to stage the same performance again on Sunday evening.
