Heat warnings issued Monday across Taiwan

Taipei, Sept. 28 (CNA) The Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued heat advisories for eight municipalities across Taiwan on Monday, warning that temperatures may exceed 36 degrees Celsius around noon.

The advisories were issued for Taipei, New Taipei and Tainan, as well as Changhua, Nantou, Yunlin, Pingtung and Hualien counties. The CWA advised the public to reduce outdoor activities and strenuous exercise, apply sunscreen, stay hydrated, and watch for signs of heat-related illness.

From Monday through Wednesday, Taiwan will see mostly cloudy to sunny skies, with afternoon showers possible in mountainous areas, the CWA said.

During this period, temperatures are expected to range from 23-35 degrees Celsius in northern Taiwan, 24-36 degrees in central Taiwan, 25-35 degrees in southern Taiwan, and 25-32 degrees in eastern Taiwan, according to CWA data.

Seasonal northeasterly winds will strengthen on Thursday and begin affecting Taiwan on Friday, the CWA said. They will bring showers to areas north of Taoyuan, eastern Taiwan, the Hengchun Peninsula in the south, and mountainous areas nationwide, the CWA forecast.

Elsewhere, conditions will remain mostly cloudy to sunny, it said.

That weather pattern is expected to continue through Sunday, the CWA said.
