Taipei, Sept. 5 (CNA) The outer bands of Tropical Storm Krovanh, which is currently lingering near Okinawa, are expected to bring rain to northern Taiwan this weekend, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said Saturday.

Precipitation is forecast to intensify in the greater Taipei area and along Keelung's north coast from Saturday night through Sunday, while Krovanh is unlikely to have a direct impact on Taiwan, the CWA said.

In central and southern Taiwan, localized afternoon showers are possible in mountainous areas on Sunday, the CWA added.

Echoing the CWA's forecast, meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) said Taiwan's weather could be affected by strong convection on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, with heavier rainfall possible in mountainous areas in the north.

On Saturday, daytime highs are forecast to reach 30-32 degrees Celsius in central, southern and eastern Taiwan, while temperatures in the north are expected to range between 28 and 30 degrees, according to the CWA. Overnight lows could fall to 25-26 degrees, it said.

The CWA also forecast high waves along the northern, northeastern and eastern coasts, urging people engaging in water activities to remain alert.

Rainfall is expected to ease from Monday through Tuesday, with weather conditions likely to become more stable later next week, the CWA said.

As of 8 a.m. Saturday, Krovanh was located about 610 kilometers east northeast of Taipei and was moving southward at 15 kilometers per hour, according to the CWA.
