Taipei, July 10 (CNA) Members of the public and local governments across Taiwan prepared for the potential impact of Typhoon Bavi after the Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued a land warning early Friday morning.

With northern Taiwan still seeing sunny skies before noon, shoppers took the opportunity to visit traditional markets and supermarkets to stock up on food and other basic necessities.
In Taipei's Neihu District, shoppers filled their baskets with vegetables, meat and other groceries.

With the typhoon expected to bring heavy rainfall, the Taipei City government began restricting access to areas behind the city's 36 riverside evacuation gates along the Tamsui, Keelung and Xindian rivers.

The trailers that make up Taipei's popular Dadaocheng Wharf Container Market were also moved to safety.

In neighboring New Taipei, authorities began towing cars and scooters parked in riverside parking areas.

Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, meanwhile, reinforced its Terminal 3 construction site and strengthened drainage measures to prevent flooding.

Meanwhile, with numerous municipalities cancelling school and work on Friday, some members of the public decided to visit shopping centers to spend time together or find entertainment such as movies and karaokes.
