6 hospitalized with severe burns in Taoyuan gas explosion

Taipei, June 13 (CNA) Six people are being treated in hospital for severe burns following a gas explosion at an animal feed processing plant in Taoyuan Friday.

The injured included four men and two women, aged between 24 and 53, who suffered burns covering 40 to 80 percent of their bodies, the Taoyuan Fire Department said. No fatalities were reported.

The department said it received a report at 2:44 p.m. about a fire at a feed processing facility on Section 1 of Nanshan Road, likely caused by a gas explosion.

Firefighters arrived at the scene within five minutes and extinguished the blaze by 3:23 p.m., the department said. The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
