Taipei, Jan. 20 (CNA) A 33-year-old Indonesian scooter driver was killed in a collision with a pickup truck in Yilan County Monday morning, according to local police.

Police said an initial investigation found that the two vehicles collided at the intersection of Sanxiang Road and Sanzhong Road in Dongshan Township at around 7 a.m.

The scooter driver was pronounced dead on arrival at Camillian St. Mary's Hospital in Luodong, while his passenger, a 31-year-old Indonesian man, also an immigrant worker, required surgery after injuring his left shoulder, police said.

Neither the scooter driver nor the pickup driver, a 47-year-old man surnamed Chang (張), was driving under the influence at the time of the accident, police added.

The case has been turned over to prosecutors who will continue to look into the cause of the deadly accident.
