Taipei, Jan. 1 (CNA) Hsinchu and Miaoli are forecast to see temperatures drop to a low of 11 degrees Celsius overnight before the weather in most parts of Taiwan turns sunny, with daytime highs rising to above 20 degrees, according to the Central Weather Administration.

The nighttime cooling effect is expected to push temperatures across Taiwan in the early hours of Tuesday down to 12-14 degrees in the north and 15-16 degrees in the south, forecaster Chang Cheng-chuan (張承傳) said Monday.

Hsinchu and Miaoli could experience lows of 11 degrees, Chang told CNA, adding that a strong wind advisory has been issued for the coastal area between Taoyuan and Yunlin, on the Hengchun Peninsula, Taitung's Green Island and Orchid Island and the offshore counties of Penghu and Kinmen.

The weather agency warned about gusts up to 88.2 kilometers per hour in those areas until late Monday night.

On Tuesday, temperatures are expected to rise to highs of 21-23 degrees in the north and 24-25 degrees in central and southern Taiwan, as the northeastern monsoon and the cold air brought by a continental high-pressure system weaken, the forecaster said.

Sporadic rain is expected in eastern Taiwan, while other areas should see sunny or partly cloudy weather on Tuesday, he added.

The rest of the week will mostly be dominated by the northeastern monsoon, which is forecast to strengthen on Wednesday and again from late Saturday to Sunday, bringing cooler weather.
