Taitung, Dec. 27 (CNA) Police in Taitung City in southeast Taiwan are trying to identify and contact a woman who apparently severed part of her finger in a single-vehicle motorcycle accident on Wednesday.

According to Fengjung neighborhood chief Shih Hao-hsuan (施晧軒), the accident occurred Wednesday afternoon when a woman crashed her motorcycle on Hanyang North Road, and then got up and drove off on her own.

Bystanders who came out to check on the woman said that after she left, they found a severed finger on the ground, whereupon they contacted him for assistance, Shih said in a Facebook post that evening.

Shih said he immediately contacted the police and fire departments, who in turn notified the Taitung Public Health Bureau to report the missing finger to area hospitals.

At the time, however, none of the hospitals were treating anyone for a severed finger, Shih said, adding that for the time being, the authorities are keeping the finger cold and maintaining close contact with local hospitals.
