Taipei, May 25 (CNA) Nvidia Corp. announced Monday that CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) will attend an employee meeting in Taipei on Wednesday to celebrate the launch of the company's Taiwan headquarters project.

Huang will personally attend a gathering at the site of Nvidia's planned headquarters in Beitou Shilin Technology Park, the company said in a brief statement.

After arriving in Taiwan last Saturday, Huang told reporters that he plans to meet with Quanta Computer Inc. Chairman Barry Lam (林百里) and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) Chairman C.C. Wei (魏哲家) during his visit and will attend the groundbreaking ceremony for Nvidia's Taiwan headquarters on May 27.

According to the city's Construction Management Office Director Yu Chi-hsueh (虞積學), Nvidia has not yet applied for a construction permit.

Speaking at a Taipei City Council hearing earlier in the day, Yu said applications for a building permit must first be submitted to the city's urban design review committee for review, but Nvidia has not yet done so.

After the design review is completed, the developer must then apply to the Construction Management Office for a building permit. Only after approval can construction officially begin under the Building Act, Yu explained.

However, he previously noted that landowners or developers can still hold ceremonial groundbreaking events even without formal approval.

Meanwhile, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) said he will also attend Nvidia's employee event on Wednesday.

The project demonstrates Taipei's strength to the world and reflects Nvidia's confidence in the city's future development, Chiang told reporters at an event in Taipei.

Asked about power supply issues at the Beitou Shilin Technology Park, Chiang said Taiwan Power Co. is planning a new substation and the city government is in ongoing talks with the utility firm.

The core issue lies in national energy policy, adding that the public expects a sound policy framework to support artificial intelligence (AI) development, he said.

While in Taipei, the Nvidia CEO is also scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at the Taipei Music Center on June 1 to kick off Computex Taipei 2026, which will run from June 2-5.

Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), the event organizer, said Monday that Marvell Technology Inc. Chairman and CEO Matt Murphy will appear on stage with Huang for a keynote event titled "The Future of AI Depends on Connectivity" on the event's opening day.

The two are expected to discuss how cooperation between the companies could provide customers with more options in developing next-generation AI infrastructure, TAITRA added.
