Higher summer electricity rates to kick off June 1

An increase in electricity rates, which is imposed annually in summer in Taiwan to discourage high consumption, will take effect on June 1, with a potential maximum increase of 27 percent, the state-run Taiwan Power Co. (Taipower) said Sunday.
