Taipei, Nov. 25 (CNA) President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) hinted at delegating more power to the younger generation Sunday, saying Sunday that "we should allow them to assume greater duties, so let us fight toward that goal."

Tsai left the remarks on the Facebook page of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Lee Chun-yi (李俊俋), who issued a call earlier in the day urging the party to let its younger generation assume more power across the board, one day after the DPP was routed by the opposition Kuomintang (KMT) in local government elections.

Tsai, who resigned as DPP chairwoman Saturday to take responsibility for the debacle, also thanked Lee for campaigning for the party's candidates and said "we should reflect on our defeat and I'm the one to be blamed."

"Let's move to allow the younger generation to assume greater duties and let's work together toward that goal," she said.

The KMT took 15 seats in Taiwan's 22 cities and counties, including six special municipalities, while the DPP grabbed just six -- which was viewed as a major setback to Tsai's ambition to seek reelection in 2020.
