Taipei, Aug. 17 (CNA) EVA Air and its Star Alliance partner in Central America, Avianca, have launched codeshare flights between Taiwan and El Salvador, the Taiwanese carrier announced Wednesday.
The new codeshare agreement, EVA Air said, will allow passengers to book flights bearing the carrier's "BR" code between Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and San Salvador via Los Angeles, San Francisco or New York.
The flights between the three American cities and Taiwan's Central American diplomatic ally, however, will be operated by Avianca.
Avianca, meanwhile, will use its "AV" code on EVA Air flights between the three American cities and Taiwan under the agreement.
EVA Air currently operates 21 round-trip flights each week to Los Angeles, 14 to San Fransisco and 10 to New York. The carrier will further increase the number of weekly flights to New York to 14 from Oct. 3.
The new codeshare flights further expands the Taiwanese carrier's network into Central America, where it previously offered flights between Taoyuan and Panama City via Los Angeles between 1995 and 2000.
EVA Air said it will continue to evaluate other possible coreshare deals so that it can offer flights to more Central and South American cities in the future.
