Taiwan food specialties popular at Sichuan trade show

Chengdu, June 9 (CNA) Taiwanese specialties such as pearl milk tea, fishballs, and pineapple cakes are among the biggest attractions at a trade fair being held in Chengdu, China's Sichuan Province, the organizers said Saturday.

Visitors to the pavilion have been waiting in long lines tosample the Taiwanese products, the organizers said.

In addition to the popular pearl milk tea, fishballs, sun cakes and pineapple cakes, a Taiwanese style barbecue sauce known as sacha sauce is among the star products, the organizers said.

Tainan-based food producer Haw-Di-I Foods Company Ltd., which makesthe sauce, said it has seen good sales of the product over the past few days.

The company said it had created a special blend of sacha sauce, using pepper from Sichuan, an area known for its spicy food, to courtlocal consumers.

Meanwhile, other Taiwanese leading food producers such as I-Mei Foods Co. and farmers associations from around Taiwan as well as footware and LED manufactures also took the opportunity to promote theirgoods at the fair.

More than 30,000 premium Taiwanese products are on display at the four-day show since June 7. A total of 550 Taiwanese companies areparticipating, showing their products at 1,300 booths.

The fair, jointly hosted by Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and the Sichuan provincial government, will run through June 10 at Chengdu Century City New International Exhibition Center.

Since 2009, 16 similar trade fairs have been held by TAITRA around China, generating business of over US$7.5 billion for Taiwan companiesand attracting about 5 million buyers and consumers.
