Taiwanese wins women's marathon in annual Taroko Gorge run

Taipei, Dec. 1 (CNA) Taiwan's Huang Su-o (黃素娥) won the woman's division of the 2018 Taroko Gorge Marathon on Saturday, while a Japanese runner took top honors in the men's division.

Huang fended off her rivals in a time of 3 hours, 10 minutes and 39 seconds in the 42.195-kilometer race held in one of Taiwan's most popular scenic spots.

Japanese Tatsuya Maruyama took first place in the men's category in a time of 2:18:48.

Each runner took home a prize of NT$80,000 (US$2,593).

In the event's half-marathon, Taiwanese Liao Yi-hao (廖宣豪) from National Taiwan University of Sport won the men's division in a time of 1:11:30, while American Taili Ni won the women's division in 1:32:50.

The Taroko Gorge Marathon, now in its 19th year, attracted 12,800 professional recreational runners, including 832 foreign participants from 38 countries spanning the United States, Japan, South Korea, Canada, Singapore, Indonesia and Kenya.
