Kaohsiung, Dec. 18 (CNA) All five crew members aboard a fishing boat that caught fire a day earlier have been rescued from the sea and flown to Kaohsiung Tuesday, according to the Coast Guard Administration.

The 39.25-ton boat caught fire around 11.7 miles off the Dongsha Islands after setting off from Pingtung County in southern Taiwan on Saturday.

Two Taiwanese and three Indonesian crew members who had abandoned the boat were floating on chunks of styrofoam for days, according to the Coast Guard.

The administration received a report of the accident in Monday morning, and immediately formed a task force to track down the boat, which is registered in southern Taiwan's Liouciou Township.

A 16-member group boarding two vessels and a transport aircraft sent by the Coast Guard Administration found the fishermen around 5.7 miles off the Dongsha Islands in Monday afternoon.
