Taipei, Sept. 8 (CNA) Taiwan's tug-of-war teams took three more gold medals at the World Outdoor Tug of War Championships in Nottingham, United Kingdom on Sunday, boosting Taiwan's total gold count to five.

The golds were bagged by the junior mixed 520-kg team, the under 23 women's 500-kg team and the women's 540-kg team, who defended their fourth consecutive title against Sweden.

Also on Sunday, the under 23 men's 600-kg team won fifth place.

The day before, Taiwan's junior women's 480-kg team and women's 500-kg team also took home gold medals, with the latter defending their fourth consecutive title against Switzerland.

Meanwhile, the under 23 mixed 560-kg team and junior men's 560-kg team won silver medals.

The 2025 Tug of War Championship was held from Sept. 4-7, with the first two days being club competitions and the last two days focused on national teams.

Chinese Taipei Tug of War Association Secretary-General Cho Yao-peng (卓耀鵬) told CNA that the athletes have worked very hard, participating in two intense competitions in one month, including the World Games held in Chengdu, China in August.

Cho said that Taiwan's teams successfully took home gold medals in both competitions, and although tug-of-war is not included in the Olympics or Asian Games, the sport should receive more recognition.

According to the Guo-guang Athletic Awards regulations, a cash prize of NT$600,000 (US$19,683) is awarded by Taiwan's government for each gold medal won at the tug-of-war World Championships.
