Taipei, Sept. 10 (CNA) High temperatures and localized afternoon showers will continue across Taiwan for the next seven days, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said Wednesday.
Highs in most areas will range between 32 and 35 degrees Celsius, with New Taipei, Taichung, Yunlin County, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung County likely to see temperatures of over 36 degrees, CWA forecaster Chang Chun-yao (張竣堯) said.
An orange heat alert has been issued for Taipei, warning of potential highs of up to 38 degrees on Thursday, Chang noted.
He also cautioned that high tides will persist on Thursday, raising the risk of flooding in coastal areas from Changhua to Chiayi, as well as in Hualien.
From Thursday through Saturday, sunny to cloudy skies are expected across the country, with localized afternoon showers likely in western Taiwan and mountainous regions, the CWA said.
From Sunday to Sept. 16, afternoon showers are expected in the Greater Taipei area, southern Taiwan, and mountainous regions, as a Pacific high-pressure system strengthens, the CWA said. Brief showers are also likely in southeastern Taiwan on Sept. 15 and 16, it said.
On Sept. 17, afternoon showers are expected in southern Taiwan and mountainous regions, while Hualien, Taitung, and the Hengchun Peninsula may see brief showers, according to the CWA.
