Taipei, May 25 (CNA) Rain, clouds, and thunder are expected across Taiwan on Sunday, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
Localized short showers and thunder are forecast in central and southern Taiwan, with the potential for heavier downpours, while northern Taiwan will experience cool and damp conditions, the CWA said.
Daytime highs will range from 23 to 25 degrees Celsius in northern Taiwan, 26 to 28 degrees in central Taiwan and Taitung County, and 30 to 31 degrees in southern Taiwan, the CWA said.
The CWA said Taiwan's outlying island counties will be mostly cloudy, with temperatures ranging from 23 to 27 degrees in Penghu, 21 to 26 in Kinmen, and 21 to 25 in Matsu (Lienchiang County).
Wu Der-rong (吳德榮), adjunct associate professor of atmospheric sciences at National Central University (NCU), said on Sunday the latest models show the front will weaken on Sunday and Monday, bringing cloud cover and localized short showers across Taiwan.
He said the front will move south to the Bashi Channel on Tuesday, with weather improving around Taiwan.
However, another front will approach on Wednesday, with increasing cloud cover and a rising probability of rain that night, Wu said.
Wu said there may also be widespread rain on Thursday, along with the possibility of lightning, strong winds and sudden heavy downpours.
The meteorologist added that on May 30, the first day of the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, conditions are expected to improve across Taiwan except in central and southern Taiwan, where brief thunderstorms are still possible.
