
Taipei, March 13 (CNA) A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck off the coast of Taitung County in eastern Taiwan at 1:09 p.m. Thursday, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
The epicenter of the temblor was located at sea 53 kilometers northeast from Taitung County Hall, at a depth of 12.5 km, CWA data showed.
The intensity of the quake, gauging the actual effect of a seismic event, was highest in Taitung and Hualien, where it measured 4 on Taiwan's 7-tier intensity scale.
The quake also measured an intensity of 3 in parts of Nantou, Kaohsiung, Chiayi, Tainan and Yunlin.
There were no immediate reports of damage following the quake.
