Taichung, March 7 (CNA) A fire that broke out Friday at the construction site of the Taichung Power Plant expansion project was extinguished within an hour, with no casualties reported and no impact on power generation, according to Taiwan Power Co. (Taipower).

According to the state-run company, sparks from a contractor cutting steel bars ignited plastic formwork materials, triggering the fire.

The plant's firefighting team responded immediately, bringing the blaze under control by 10:10 a.m. and notifying the Taichung City Fire Bureau for additional support, the company said in a statement.

In response, the fire bureau dispatched 11 fire trucks and 28 personnel to the scene, where thick smoke was visible from several kilometers away.

Firefighters reported that the blaze was fully extinguished by 10:59 a.m., with an estimated burn area of 200 square meters.
