Taipei, Jan. 18 (CNA) Temperatures across Taiwan are forecast to rebound on Saturday as the continental cold air mass weakens, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).

Daytime highs across Taiwan are expected to exceed 20 degrees Celsius, except in Keelung and Yilan County, where temperatures will likely remain below 19 degrees, the CWA said.

Skies across most of the island will be partly cloudy, while eastern regions are expected to experience thick cloud cover throughout the day, the weather agency's website indicated.

The CWA also cautioned residents in western Taiwan to prepare for a sudden drop in temperatures after sunset.

Earlier in the morning, the CWA issued a cold surge advisory covering all 13 areas north of Yunlin County, including Nantou and Hualien counties, as well as the outlying Kinmen County.

The advisory warned that due to radiative cooling, temperatures could dip below 10 degrees in these areas and even below 6 degrees in New Taipei, Yilan, Hsinchu, and Miaoli cities and counties.

Residents in these areas were advised to stay warm and ensure proper ventilation at home as many might have their windows closed while using gas stoves or water heaters, the CWA added. The advisory was lifted around 10 a.m.

Meanwhile, the CWA said regional showers are possible along the northern coast in Keelung, eastern Taiwan, and mountainous areas in the west.
