Taipei, Jan. 14 (CNA) With a southbound cold air mass accompanied by a cloud system moving northward, Taiwan is forecast to experience cold temperatures and rainy weather on Wednesday, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
Speaking with CNA, CWA forecaster Lin Ting-yi (林定宜) explained that the temperature in northern Taiwan will drop to between 11-18 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, while the central part of the country can expect to see temperatures ranging from 12-19 degrees and the south from 14-21 degrees.
While the cold air mass will chill Taiwan under wet conditions on Wednesday, it will also bring dry and cold conditions on Thursday, when the effect of the cold front will be at its peak, Lin said.
With temperatures in the western half and northeastern parts of Taiwan forecast to be 10-13 degrees on Thursday, members of the public should also take note that the mercury could fall below 10 degrees in some areas.
Lin went on to say that while the cold air mass will weaken by early Friday morning, the effects of radiative cooling will ensure Taiwan remains cold early and late Saturday, causing a significant day-night temperature that could exceed 10 degrees.
From Tuesday evening to early Thursday morning, mountains in north-central Taiwan with elevations above 3,500 meters could experience snowfall if conditions are right, Lin said.
Moisture will decrease between Friday and next Tuesday, bringing cloudy to sunny skies across Taiwan, he said, with the exception of the eastern half of the nation which will see sporadic rain.
Early Sunday, Taiwan could experience low clouds and even fog affecting visibility, especially in central and southern areas.
