Taichung, Jan. 14 (CNA) The Taichung Police Department recently incinerated narcotics and drug paraphernalia with a street value in excess of NT$100 million (US$3 million), officers said Tuesday.

After recording all of the illegal substances in its inventory, the department transported a total of 2,723 units of Category 3 and Category 4 narcotics and paraphernalia to Taichung's Houli Refuse Incineration Plant for destruction, they said.

The total weight of the illegal drugs and items incinerated was around 140 kilograms, consisting of ketamine, mephedrone, cathinone and etomidate alongside the paraphernalia used to consume and administer the drugs, the police said.

They noted that the destruction of the drugs and paraphernalia was publicized to showcase to the general public the commitment of police in safeguarding the nation from narcotics through the enforcement of its zero tolerance policy.
