Taipei, Dec. 11 (CNA) Successive cold fronts will arrive in Taiwan on Tuesday and Saturday this week, bringing relief after the country's recent stretch of unseasonably warm weather, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).

CWA forecaster Lin Ting-yi (林定宜) told CNA that northern and northeastern Taiwan will begin to cool as winds from the incoming weather system strengthen on Monday night.

During the day on Tuesday, high temperatures of 19-20 degrees Celsius are forecast for Taipei -- down from 31.1 degrees on Monday -- along with highs of 20-24 degrees in eastern Taiwan and 26-30 degrees in other regions, Lin said.

Overnight lows will drop to around 19-20 degrees nationwide.

On both Tuesday and Wednesday, Lin said, there will be a chance of isolated rain showers in the north and east, while mostly cloudy conditions are expected in other parts of the country.

As the cold front lifts, temperatures will rebound and generally drier conditions prevail on Thursday and Friday, with daytime highs in Greater Taipei topping out at around 26 degrees, according to Lin.

The CWA expects a second cold front to affect Taiwan from Saturday through next Monday, which will bring an initial wave of showers to the north and east followed by "dry cold" conditions, Lin said.

During that period, temperatures in northern Taiwan will range from 13 to 21 degrees, including around 14-17 degrees in Taipei, Lin said.

According to CWA data, the average temperature in December from 1991-2020 was 18.2 degrees in Taipei in the north, 18.7 degrees in Taichung in central Taiwan, 19.7 degrees in Hualien in the east, and 21.2 degrees in Kaohsiung in the south.
