HK activist says fight for democracy still young

09/10 10:00

Hong Kong’s pro-democracy activist Joshua Wong has told CNA that the sacrifices Hong Kong has endured in the past three months of protests is small compared to what Taiwan went through during its democracymovement. He visited Taiwan from Sept. 3-5 to urge the Taiwanese government, political parties and people to support the Hong Kong protests that have evolved from opposing an extradition bill, that would have allowed Hong Kong people to be extradited to mainlandChina for trial, to demanding for free elections. After Hong Kong’s Chief Executive Carrie Lam announced the withdrawal of the bill on Sept. 4, Wong and other protest leaders vowed to continue their protests until there’s universal suffrage in the former Britishcolony.
