Taipei, Jan. 20 (CNA) With another wave of northeasterly winds and cold front headed toward Taiwan, weather conditions in the northern part of the island are forecast to be cold and wet next week, with temperatures expected to drop to a low of 14 degrees Celsius, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Saturday.

On Saturday clouds will accumulate throughout the country in the morning, with a chance of rain in the north, east and mountainous regions in central and southern Taiwan, according to CWB forecaster Liu Pei-teng (劉沛滕).

However, the northeasterly winds and moisture that have brought rain and cold temperatures to Taiwan this week will finally let up in the afternoon, Liu said.

Daytime highs in northern Taiwan are expected to be between 19 and 20 degrees, while highs from Taichung in the central region to Tainan in the south as well as Yilan and Taitung in the east will range between 22 and 24 degrees.

Meanwhile, temperatures could reach a high of 26 to 27 degrees in Kaohsiung and Pingtung, though lows during late hours will range between 17 and 19 degrees throughout the country, Liu said.

As nice weather makes a brief return to Taiwan on Sunday, the northern part of the island could see a high of 24 degrees while the central and southern areas' highs could reach 28 degrees, she said.

Starting next Monday, however, daytime highs are forecast to drop down to only 18 to 19 degrees in northern Taiwan, with weather conditions being cold and wet for the entire week.
