Unstable, sultry weather forecast for Taiwan Thursday

Taipei, Aug. 24 (CNA) Affected by a low pressure system, the weather around Taiwan will be unstable on Thursday, with chances of sporadic showers in the afternoon, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) forecast.

As a result of the weather system, eastern, southeastern and southern parts of the country can expect intermittent rain throughout the day, while brief thunderstorms are forecast in the afternoon for other areas, the bureau said, reminding people to be vigilant in avoiding possible landslides, mudslides and falling rocks.

Meanwhile, the weather will be muggy, with daytime highs around the country forecast to range from 32-35 degrees Celsius, according to the bureau.

It also forecast rough waves in coastal areas off southern Taiwan (including the Hengchun Peninsula) and southeastern Taiwan (including Green Island and Orchid Island) and the outlying islands of Penghu and Kinmen.

In addition, air quality around Taiwan is expected to be good to fair from Thursday to Saturday, according to the Environmental Protection Administration's Air Quality Index.
