Taipei, Feb. 1 (CNA) Labor pension reform and the promotion of a minimum wage act are among the government's top priorities for 2018, according to a policy report made public by the Cabinet Thursday.

The policy goals, which have been submitted for legislative review, also underline the importance of industrial transformation, renewable energy promotion and long-term care programs.

Based on a policy draft, the minimum wage act will guarantee a minimum income that will meet employee's basic living needs.

On the labor pension front, reforms will be aimed at achieving financial sustainability to ensure people can collect their pensions over the long term.

In terms of national defense, the Cabinet pointed to the government's continued push to end conscription and promote an all-voluntary military force.

Other policy goals included promoting the development of an indigenous defense industry.

In addition, the report outlined the government's commitment to ensuring regional security by maintaining stable cross-strait relations.
