China representative in Taiwan for ECFA committee meeting

Taipei, April 25 (CNA) A Chinese delegation to the upcoming third Cross-Taiwan Strait Economic Cooperation (ECFA) Committee meeting arrived in Taiwan Wednesday.

Zheng Lizhong, vice president of Beijing-based Association forRelations Across the Taiwan Straits, and Chinese Vice Minister ofCommerce Jiang Yaoping are scheduled to attend the third regularECFA committee meeting to be held in Taipei the following day.

On the Taiwan side, Vice Economic Affairs Minister Francis Liang will lead a delegation of members of the Mainland Affairs Council, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Council for Economic Planning and Development, the Financial Supervision Committee, the Ministry of Finance and the Straits Exchange Foundation.

The representatives will inspect the progress and execution of the ECFA, such as profits from goods listed on the ECFA early harvest program, investment, trade, industrial cooperation and customs cooperation.

The committee was established in accordance with Article 11 of the ECFA to install a platform and mechanism to discuss and handle issues related to the trade agreement. The meetings are held every six months, with China and Taiwan rotating as hosts.
