Taipei, July 16 (CNA) A total of 36,337 contestants from India, Indonesia, China and Vietnam recently tested their knowledge of Taiwanese brands in the first stage of the 2012 SmarTEST!, the organizers said Monday.
The contest, held July 14-15, was a fun and interesting way to allow others to advance their understanding of Taiwanese brands and to heighten awareness of Taiwanese products, said Walter Yeh, executive vice president of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council -- one of the organizers of the event.
Contestants taking part in the three-stage competition must have a sizeable knowledge of Taiwanese brands to be able to reach the different stages, he said, adding that the event carries a total purseof US$100,000.
In the first stage of the contest, contestants could take the online test anywhere or choose to report to a designated test center, where they had to answer as many of the total number of 1,000 questions as they could within 24 hours.
The top 10 scorers from each country in the first round will advance to the second stage to be held in August. The winners will be announced July 24.
The top scorers in each country in the second stage will be invited to assemble a team of three to represent their respective countries in the final stage to be held in Taiwan.
A total of 63 Taiwan Excellence brands will be providing products as prizes for the competition, which was jointly organized by the council and the Bureau of Foreign Trade.
