Taipei, June 21 (CNA) The Digital Innovation Forum 2018, supported by the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Advisory Council (ABAC), will take place in Taipei July 19-20 and feature the world's first robot to be awarded citizenship in a country, Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Thursday.

The ABAC forum will be co-hosted by Papua New Guinea, this year's APEC host economy, and Jan Hung-tze (詹宏志), Taiwan's representative to ABAC and chairman of the ABAC Digital Innovation Working Group, according to Michael Hsu (徐佩勇), head of MOFA's Department of International Organizations.

The forum will discuss artificial intelligence, block chains, information security, digital governance and financial technology.

In addition, Sophia, a humanoid robot woman developed by Hong Kong-based company Hanson Robotics, will also make an appearance at the forum, according to Hsu.

The robot, which has female features, can make facial expressions and hold conversations, was granted citizenship by Saudi Arabia in October last year, the first robot to receive citizenship anywhere in the world, Hsu added.

Meanwhile, several international digital technology leaders will speak at the event, including representatives of Taiwan's technology start-up companies such as Horace Luke, chief executive officer of Gogoro Inc., a Taiwan-based electric scooter company. He will talk about the development in Taiwan of unicorn startup -- a privately owned firm created less than 10 years ago, valued at over US$1 billion and not listed on the stock market.
